Adult Trauma, Children and adult limb reconstruction and bone infection

Hull Royal Infirmary

The Hull limb reconstruction unit consists of three consultants, two limb fellows, one full time specialist nurse and a specialist physiotherapist supported by twice weekly frame physiotherapy classes. There are three specialist frame clinics each week, combined orthoplastic and general trauma theatre lists each week as well as elective theatre capacity. We are a major trauma centre and accept tertiary complex fracture referrals from across our region as well patients who require surgical correction of deformity.

The Hull bone infection unit overlaps with the limb reconstruction team and consists regular input of two orthopaedic surgeons, three plastic surgeons, one radiologist and an infectious diseases consultant. There are three MDT meetings a month, one clinic a month and combined theatre lists as required.

The fellow is expected to be at senior registrar / post CCT level. The fellow attends elective and trauma theatres, clinics, bone infection MDT and clinics. They are responsible for the day to day inpatient of limb recon and bone infection patients across the entire unit. The fellow will liaise across the specialities to provide optimum care to our patients. There is an expectation for the fellow to undertake research and join ongoing projects; audit, quality improvement and and research would be an integral part of the job.
