Guidelines for the applicants
The purpose of the bursary is to support a short elective, unpaid fellowship or sabbatical such as a visit to a limb reconstruction unit . Preference will be given to those planning short visits to an international (non-UK) centre of excellence under the supervision of a recognised expert eg. to look at new technique etc.
In exceptional circumstances it can be used to support travel to a limb reconstruction course held abroad that is not available in the UK.
The executive was unanimous that it should not be merely another source of study leave type funding, and applications to attend a conference or course in the UK will be declined.
Applications will also be considered to support teaching/educational visits to LMICs where the emphasis is on Limb Reconstruction. The applicant would need to provide details of the project and whether there are other sources of funding.
Applications should be submitted via the secretary who will forward it to the committee. The application should include a CV and a Statement of Intent including travel plan and the likely benefit to both the member and his/her local hospital.
Trainee Members should include a supporting letter from an Ordinary Member that the applicant has worked for.
We expect the successful applicants to give a presentation about their experience at the following BLRS meeting and an article for the website about the visit.
Recipients of a bursary will need to provide receipt/invoices to show how the funds have been used.
Finally, the bursary may be split between two or more applicants at the discretion of the committee. If a committee member is applying, they would not take part in the decision-making process.
