The inaugural BLRS @ OTS afternoon meeting took place at the Royal Society of Medicine on 10 June, bringing together trauma and limb reconstruction surgeons for a highly successful afternoon focused on the management of complex trauma from a limb reconstruction perspective.

With standing-room-only attendance, the programme featured an outstanding faculty, including international guest speaker Mari Thiart, who shared her experience of paediatric major trauma in Cape Town alongside a series of challenging cases. An inspiring presentation on the management of the paediatric mangled limb, compiled by President-Elect Patrick Foster and delivered by proxy by Jo Round due to travel commitments, was another highlight of the programme.

Beth Pincher delivered an excellent session on the use of circular frames for tibial plateau fractures and their associated pitfalls, while Alex Trompeter provided valuable insights into the prevention and management of femoral non-unions. Alex Vris highlighted the breadth of treatment options available for pilon fractures, and a lively debate on segmental tibial fractures between Liz Moulder and Ben Fischer generated considerable discussion.

The afternoon stimulated excellent discussion and collaboration between specialties, and we hope this will be the first of many successful BLRS @ OTS sessions. Further details of future meetings and educational opportunities will be shared with members in due course.
